Bandwidth for education and training
Major barriers exist to realising the potential technology offers to education and training because of variable access to fast and reliable broadband across sectors and jurisdictions, especially for state schools in some regions and for non-government schools. High-capacity bandwidth, usually beyond residential requirements, is required across Australia for education and training purposes by institutions, learners and researchers.
Access to high speed bandwidth provides the infrastructure necessary for access to digital resources in Australia and around the world. High-capacity bandwidth will allow the exchange of teaching and learning resources and information, and supports effective, interoperable student management systems.
In June 2009 the Australian Government sought views on options for reforming the existing telecommunications regime to make it work more effectively, particularly during the transition to the National Broadband Network, through the Regulatory Reform for 21st Century Broadband: discussion paper.
AICTEC’s submission was published on the National Broadband Network: Regulatory Reform for 21st Century Broadband-Submissions website.
AICTEC is supporting ongoing national collaboration across sectors and jurisdictions to facilitate strategies and provide policy advice that informs how to improve access to fast and reliable broadband for education and training purposes.
