Dr Evan Arthur
Evan Arthur was educated at Newcastle University (Australia) and Cambridge (United Kingdom). He holds a PhD from Cambridge in the area of Stoic Philosophy.
Dr Arthur has been a university tutor and a public servant. He has worked on issues such as refugee policy, labour market programs, teacher professional development, research policy, research infrastructure and schools policy and programs. His current position is Group Manager, National Schools and Youth Partnerships Group, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. In this position he is responsible for the implementation of the Smarter Schools National Partnership, the Youth Transitions National Partnership and the $2.4 billion Digital Education Revolution.
Dr Arthur has been involved in the issue of the effective use of information and communications technology in education and research in Australia for some 15 years. He is the chair of the Australian ICT in Education Committee, the principal cross sectoral body advising Commonwealth, State and Territory Ministers in this area. In 2006 he was awarded the Public Service Medal for activities related the provision of a very high bandwidth network connecting all Australian universities, the Australian Research and Education Network.
